High inflammatory response noted, especially considering the slightly low WBC count. Already on melox and other meds so will likely improve with current treatment plan. Signs of systemic infection not present in this sample.

Brought inside for wound care. Initially started awake but manipulation/extension was painful - brought upstairs and anaesthetized under 4% ISO and oxygen for PT & to finish wound care. Very stiff, took many reps & holds for full extension. Disconnected covert feather came loose during cleaning. IB primary - shaft is flaking off but feather is hardly an inch long. Base is under healthy skin, no bleeding, so left alone for now. Gave half dose of torb for pain during PT.

Anesthetized for PT and wound care - wrist very stiff. Low Perch Only.

VET NOTES
Asked to weigh in on case. There is a fairly thick older scab at the base of the feather shafts on the dorsal metacarpus at the level of the fracture. Picked and cleaned it, exposed feather shafts but at this point does not seem to involve the bone.
Radiographs were repeated - there is an indentation in the bone on the ventral aspect of the major metacarpus at the level of the fracture.
It is unclear to me from the record when sutures were placed, and where the open aspect of the fracture was. However, I am concerned that there is some osteomyelitis. Today we bandaged the open area with Duoderm gel, would continue to clean and place hydrogel EOD w/ PT for now. Add Enrofloxacin. Dr Gardner

BARP. Mouth open and panting, tried to fly around the enclosure. Administered meds and FF, continued panting and was very stiff during treatment. 18 g LO. Changed papers and put down a towel, would not stand when placed back, sat back on hocks and panted.

Veterinary Exam, Left Metacarpal Fracture:

Patient was placed under general anesthesia for examination of the left metacarpal fracture.
Existing bandage was removed and the fracture site was examined. There was one primary flight feather with dermal wound over the base of the feather shaft. This feather was gently removed from its base in order to allow the dermal wound to heal by second intention. The adjacent secondary feathers had moderate amount of dried blood present and this was gently cleaned away.

Chlorhexidine solution used to gently clean the wound, saline flush and then Silver Gel was applied to the wound area. Telfa pad, Sam Splint, cast padding and vet wrap for figure of eight bandage.

Patient recovery was unremarkable.

Ok to place outside in condo cage.

Bird originally was found in low tree and jumped into yard. Captured and brought to CRC next morning. Laying on its back with legs up. Flapped wings when removed form box. stared directly at examiner. Mc Fx and wound felt on L wing. Rads were taken. Bullets found in L leg and abdomen. found wound on L MC, large scabbed area. fresh bleeding on wound while picking/cleaning, green bruising, and a loose covert feather. cleaned wound with hydrogen peroxide. scrubbed and flushed. put silver gel and telfa bandage on wound and figure eight wrapped it. Sq fluid, meloxi Im, and torb Im given. placed in a kennel in KR2. layed in towel when placed in kennel.
